Dear People of the Northstate Vision:

A recent morning's devotional reading included Chapters 36-7 of the Book
of Isaiah – and three insights emerged. First, an Assyrian commander
pretends to prophesy against Jerusalem. He claims that only the Lord can
sustain his army, thus validating his presence, and that the Lord instructed
him to attack Jerusalem. As the enemy always does, this commander speaks
in half truths – the Lord does indeed sustain all that lives and moves, but this
attack is in defiance of the Lord and Isaiah exposes the fraud. (We know the
enemy by his half truths.) Second, the Lord speaks the whole truth – and it is
knowable by its consistency with the whole of His revelation. In this case,
the Lord promises to uphold King Hezekiah – who serves Him – and defeat
the Assyrians, who serve false gods and their own arrogance. The Lord says
through Isaiah that when the pagan king hears a report he will abandon the
siege of Jerusalem and be cut down with the sword on his return home.

Third, the Lord handles His own word in His own way. The Assyrian king
does not retreat immediately following the report he receives; he continues
his threats. But Hezekiah remains faithful and – when the Lord dispatches
85,000 Assyrians by way of a plague – the enemies of God do retreat, and
the pagan king is later cut down by his own sons while worshipping his god.

The lessons to be learned are both simple and crucial. We recognize the
prophets by the consistency of their message with the Word of God, not
by their business card or web site. (Do prophets live in palaces?) When
we recognize the Word our Faith is in Him and not in what is apparent –
whether it is beautiful or ugly. Finally, we need to let the Word unfold in
His way, not our own. He is faithful; we need sometimes to wait Him out.

CURRENTPrayNorthstateEVENTS

•

June will be a month of tending some homefires for PrayNorthState. We have
no teaching events scheduled, although we will travel to Sacramento and Fresno
to prepare for near future initiatives and minister to leaders. Jim returns from
the Mt. Hermon Christian Writers' Conference with requests for several book
proposals and will be getting them into shape. We have been invited to re-
establish a television presence in the NorthState – only raising the necessary
funds remains to be completed. Please pray for us as we seek to boldly follow
Him and humbly discern where He is leading. As led, please offer help.

•

It is appropriate to share some testimony about The National Day of Prayer
and Bible Reading Marathon in this space. One man came to help set up
tents for the Wednesday Night prayer and praise. His right arm had no
strength following four surgeries to correct injuries sustained in a fall; yet God
progressively healed him through the night and he was fully restored when he
returned to dismantle equipment the next day. Four different people approached
Jim to say they had deeply longed for a specific word from God and that word
was included in their readings during the marathon. God is so good!
