| Dear People of the Northstate Vision:
What is this season we call Epiphany? The season takes its name
from an ancient Greek word that means to manifest or show forth.
It begins with the day we commemorate the coming of the Wise Men
and it includes their visit alongside the Baptism of Jesus and the
Wedding at Cana – three events most closely identified with
this time of celebration between Christmas and Lent. (Lent is the
time of preparation for God’s ultimate sacrifice of Himself.)
It is a time to celebrate the miracles of the Lord in our midst,
and to see what He is saying to us through His interventions in
our lives.
In PrayNorthState we have a lot of miracles to celebrate. We have
heard from fourteen of the businesses and ministries that supported
Celebrating the NorthState Family – our auction in December
– and they report miraculous boosts to their enterprises.
(This is not because they supported us per se, but because they
had the courage to trust and obey the Lord as they – like
the Magi – did what He and His Word commands albeit a Word
counter-intuitive to the economy’s dictate.) We bless the
Lord for Sainte Television – owners of Fox 30/Cable 2 –
who have determined to keep our program on the air whatever sacrifices
that may mean for them; they have made as public a commitment to
the Kingdom as did the Father and the Holy Spirit when Jesus was
baptized. And we celebrate the eighth anniversary of PrayNorthState
and the advent of our ninth year of ministry – a ministry
that would not exist if we did not serve a God who turns water into
wine.
Speaking of water into wine – it is just days since the weather
experts said there was no rain in the longterm forecast; as we write
we are in our second day of rain. Let us bless the Lord, ask for
more, and shout, “It’s Epiphany!

Praying Home the Prodigals will be offered at Word of His Grace
Church in Bothell, Washington, the weekend of February 6-7. On Friday
Night Jim teaches about the special anointing on this season as
it is summarized in Luke 1:17. On Saturday he gives practical strategies
for prayer and ministry when we take seriously God’s call
to turn our hearts to His missing-in-action children – with
special emphasis on the changes we might seek in our own hearts
– from the privilege of repentance to the power of radical
engagement – to facilitate that process. Call the church at
425-424-3801 for information or to register. The conference runs
from 7-9:30 PM Friday and from 8:30-5 on Saturday.

Building A House of Prayer: Some Assembly Required is coming to
Southern California the weekend of February 20-22 as a weekend retreat.

prophetic.”) Topics include prayer impacting the city, worship
as warfare, and healing and other practical stuff. The retreat is
sponsored by The Gathering in Brea. Call Pastor Richard Menees at
949-283-0286.

WHAT’S UP IN THE NORTHSTATE
*
PrayNorthState TV remains on the air at Fox of Northern California!
In our January newsletter we announced the coming cancellation of
PrayNorthState TV, aired on Fox of Northern California Monday Mornings
at 6:30 for the past five years. Due to the current economy, we
could not generate enough sponsor revenue to offset the cost of
production. But Fox execs decided that our program is important
enough to the vision of their mission that they called us recently
to say they were prepared to do whatever it takes to keep us on
the air. We will resume production on February 12 with no break
in programming. Please let Fox know how much this means to you –
and bless them in Christ!

The Perspectives Course on the worldwide Christian movement will
again be taught in several locations this Spring. The fifteen week
course covers what God is doing in mission around the world –
and how to be in mission in our own communities or on foreign mission
fields. The weekly course begins on Sunday, January 25, at the Covenant
Community Church in Davis and on Monday, January 26 at Matthew’s
Café Community Church in Chico. Each unit is taught by experts
in many fields; Jim will teach cross-cultural ministry at both locations
on April 12 and 13. Go to www.perspectives.org or call Frank Agee
at 530-877-1017. For those who are interested it is not too late
to register.

Jesus Culture Encounter returns to Redding on February 6-7 and is
this year coupled with the Campus Awake Leaders’ Training
on February 8-9. These events are held concurrently at Redding’s
Convention Center and at Redding’s Bethel Church campus. Keynote
Speaker will be founder-of-the-Call Lou Engel. Lou is joined by
Jesus Culture founder Banning Liebscher; worship is led by Kim Walker
and Chris Quilala. Go to encounterjesus.org or call 530-246-6000.
*
Campus Awakening is a leadership summit for young people impacted
by Jesus Culture Encounter and passionate to impact their schools.
It follows on the heels of Jesus Culture this month – the
8th and 9th of February – a Sunday and Monday. This event
is led by Jesus Culture founder Banning Liebscher, Erica Grieve,
and Michael Brodeur. It will train and empower youth for awakening
their campus homes to the call of God that it should be “on
earth as it is in heaven.” This event is for campus leaders
only. Go to encounterjesus.org or call 530-246-6000.
*
Redding Transformation teams with River City Church of Redding and
a host of local leaders to offer LYNK Training on Thursday Nights
from February 5 through March 19, from 7-9 PM. The course will offer
training in transformational principles from many leadership perspectives
including Youth for Christ’s Rick Caldwell, the Vineyard’s
Pastor Mike Kerns, and Bethel Church’s Pastor Bill Johnson.
There is a charge for registration; call 530-222-9371 or go to www.weR1net.net
for info or to register.
*
Forty Days for Life returns to Sacramento from February 25 through
April 5. This extended vigil for a culture of life will span the
traditional season of Lent and will include prayer and sidewalk
counseling training as well as worship at the state capitol and
at various sites around Sacramento. It now occurs several times
each year in more than eighty American cities and more than six
hundred lives were saved – not through picketing but through
ministry – during the last season. Contact Wynette Sills at
916-955-1577 or e-mail her at wsills@succeed.net to participate
or to learn how to establish this ministry in a new community.
*
Joni and Friends is the ministry of Joni Eareksen Tada. Monica Thoma
– of Rowell Family Empowerment will speak in Redding on Saturday,
February 21, at Redding’s First Nazarene Church. Joni and
Friends will sponsor this afternoon and evening devoted to ministering
to families with autism – and becoming sensitive to this condition
whether or not we are called to specific ministry in the field.
The event will be held from 4-7:30 PM and will include a pizza dinner.
There will be no childcare provided and there is no charge for the
event. Call the church at 530-223-0454 for information or to register,
or e-mail klferris@citlink.net. Most people think of autism as a
serious disability. Event organizers invite you to come and find
out what God thinks about it.
*
Soaring Together is the title of 2009’s annual Prophetic Conference
at Redding’s Bethel Church. The event will be held from February
25-27 and will feature internationally known prophets Larry Randolph,
Leif Hetland, and Kris Vallotton. (Kris is also the executive pastor
of Bethel Church and leads their School of Supernatural Ministry.)
Worship will be led by Brian and Jenn Johnson and Kim Walker. There
is a cost of $89.00 per person and $155.00 per couple. This year’s
theme is right in line with what we have been teaching in Praying
Home the Prodigals and we heartily recommend it. Organizers say,
“Malachi…prophesied that the nature of the last days’
prophetic ministry would restore families by bridging the generation
gap…(and) the synergy from this prophetic momentum would destroy
the curses over our land.” Call 530-246-6000 for info.
*
Eagles’ Heart is a new prayer group for business persons with
an interest in the fulfilling of prophecies made over the Downtown
Mall in Redding. Meetings combine prayer with strategies for blessing
the mall. Call PrayNorthState at 530-941-3470 for info. Do we live
in intractable times, or in times in which God calls us to walk
– on our own two feet – through doors that He alone
can open?
*
Jim’s new book, The Holy Spirit and the End Times, is all
about practical prophecy and field-tested strategies for welcoming
God into your community in ways that demonstrate and celebrate His
transforming power. Check it out on our web site – www.praynorthstate.org
– e-mail us at praynorthstate@charter.net or just give us
a call at 530-941-3470. It’s available at most bookstores
as well.
