SEPTEMBER 2008 ISSUE – VOL. 8 #7
The Rev. Jim and Diana Wilson, Coordinators

Dear People of the Northstate Vision:

The Lord gave me two scriptures as I return to work this week from some needed vacation. First was Hebrews 12:5, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you.” The second was Hosea 6:3, “Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge Him. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the winter rains.” There is challenge and hope in these verses.

We hear prophetic pronouncements that the Lord is about to (or is already) discipline(ing) California for sins ranging from addictions to drugs and pornography to toleration of abortion and gay marriage. But prophecy cannot countermand Scripture and the Word of God says the Church is judged ahead of society. We’ve warned for years that the Church is due for discipline – but the good news in the Hebrews message is that the Lord only disciplines those He loves the most. The challenge is to become the authentic Church now; times are serious and the season short. Just so, Hosea’s challenge is to seek the Lord’s face in the urgent now. The good news is we can’t miss Him – anymore than the rising sun or the winter rains.

The economy is critical and the measures impacting our culture of life on the Fall ballot even moreso. Churches are splitting and leaders continue to be exposed in scandal. There are millions waiting to hear of Jesus and only ourselves to share that good news. We need to take our eyes off of our (superstar) leaders and put them on our King. We need to take our focus from our projects and put it onto the Great Commission. We need to let go our identity in denominational doctrine and find it in His Spirit. Mostly we need to pray – daily and together – for His will on our portion of the earth.
CURRENTPrayNorthstateEVENTS

PrayNorthState leads a congregational retreat and introduces our new teaching series, Praying Home the Prodigals, at the same time from Friday Night, September 12 through Saturday Night, September 13, at All Saints Anglican Church in Bakersfield, California. The teaching series is based on Jim’s book, Living As Ambassadors of Relationships, and is grounded in God’s call for this season (Luke 1:17) that we are to go forth in the Spirit of Elijah, turning the hearts of the fathers to the children and preparing a people for righteousness. Attendance at this retreat is limited, but we are accepting bookings for the series.

Prophetic Acts With Impact comes to Jesus Christ Fellowship in Middletown, Lake County, from Friday Night, September 19 through Saturday, September 20. The conference is held from 7-9:30 PM on Friday and from 8:30 to 5 PM on Saturday. Participants learn how to join with Christians across denominational lines through proclamation of the whole Word and projects of targeted prayer. Prayer Vanguard – praying on site with insight is both taught and practiced at this event. Also taught will be concepts of community transformation and the documentation of what God does. Contact Pastor Jeff at 707-987-9082.

Jim’s new book – The Holy Spirit and the End Times: A Season of Unusual Miracles – will be released from Destiny Image Publishers on or about October 1. This is the book conference attendees have been urging Jim to write for the past seven years. Everything we know about revival and transformation – and a whole lot of good stories – are in its pages. Look for it at local bookstores, on our web site, and at our events. The book will sell for $16.00.

WHAT’S UP IN THE NORTHSTATE

Prayer is being coordinated all over California for Proposition 8 – the November ballot measure that will (if adopted) amend the state constitution to again state that marriage is an exclusive covenant between a man and a woman. (PrayNorthState is part of that coordinating effort.) Just as important is Proposition 4; this one would require parental notification when a minor seeks an abortion in California. Our prayer is that these initiatives will be adopted, and that their adoption will come as an affirmation of the Culture of Life we seek rather than as a political backlash. For that to occur the Body must mobilize as an agent of prayer and blessing, and not just as a political force.

The Chico based Center for Transformation Studies announces their Fall class schedule as of August 4. Classes will actually begin in September and the Body is invited to a preview event on September 13-15. For information contact Director Terry Walling at 530-891-8285 or go to www.cftstudies.org.

Teen Challenge is the most successful addiction recovery ministry in history, and they celebrate their fiftieth anniversary this year. (Faith based recovery ministries tend to be two to three times more effective than secular models in all cases; TC raises the bar on even faith-based models.) The annual banquet of Teen Challenge will be held in Yuba City (September 18) at Calvary Christian Center – phone 530-673-6035 – in Redding (September 19) at Redding Christian Fellowship – phone 530-222-3425 – and in Fair Oaks (September 20) at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church – phone 916-967-4784. Guest speaker this year is the Rev. Sonny Arguinzoni, a TC alum and the founder of Victory Outreach Ministries. PrayNorthState has worked with both ministries and we highly recommend support of them.

Family Christian Center in Orangevale hosts FUEL for a Revival Generation on September 26 and 27. Bonnie Chavda will keynote and Consecrate will lead the worship. Special leadership sessions will begin Friday at 10:00 AM. The conference will focus on youth and young adult leaders. Call 916-988-6606 or email matt@riverlife.net for information or to register.

Redding’s Bethel Church offers a School of Transformation, Phase 1, September 29 through October 2. The theme is training church leaders to heal through a revival culture. Admission is through application only. Contact Pastor Danny Silk at 530-246-6000 or go to ibethel.org on the internet.

Bethel Church will also host their annual Open Heavens conference from October 22-24 at the church’s Redding campus, and their semi annual Leadership Advance from November 3-5. Open Heavens is a Wednesday through Friday event while Leadership Advance runs from Monday through Wednesday. Pastors John and Carol Arnott (founders of Toronto Airport Fellowship) will keynote the earlier conference, along with Bethel’s Senior Pastor, Bill Johnson. Worship will be led by Worship Pastors Brian and Jenn Johnson, and Kim Walker. These events are frequently sold out long in advance and so any who are interested should contact the church ASAP. Call 530-246-6000 or go to ibethel.org.

The Chico House of David is a ministry of worship, teaching, and integration of Israel into the Kingdom through the service of Messianic Jews and friends. Led by Eric Teitelman, the house will host a trip to Israel from February 5-15, 2009. We carry this notice so far in advance because of the need for early reservations from those planning to participate. Contact 866-267-2511 for information or to reserve space. The group will first fly to Tel Aviv and later visit multiple sites in Galilee. Time in Jerusalem will be the centerpiece of the journey. Whatever any of us may think of the place of contemporary Israel in the Kingdom – and our readers know well what I think of the place of the Firstborn – Israel remains the center of our world in political, spiritual and military terms. If God is calling you to walk where Jesus walked now is a specially strategic time to do it.

Another strategic event that requires advance planning for participation will the Focus on Marriage event from Focus on the Family. The conference will be carried live via satellite on February 28, 2009, and will feature Beth Moore (Living Proof Ministries); Dr. Gary Smalley (Smalley Relationship Center); Dr. John Trent (Center for Strong Families); Gary Thomas (Center for Evangelical Spirituality); and Dr. Del Tackett (Focus on the Family Institute). One of the scandals of the Body of Christ is that our marriages dissolve as frequently as do the marriages of those outside of the Body. This conference is seeking hosting sites and has the potential to impact our lives in some fundamental ways. Go to focusonmarriage.com for more info or to register or to offer your church as a hosting site for the event.

UPCOMING PrayNorthState EVENTS

We introduce a new teaching series this Fall titled Praying Home the Prodigals that is based entirely on Living As Ambassadors of Relationships. The maiden voyage of the full six week course at Redding’s Bethel Church begins on Wednesday, October 29, at 7 PM and continues through December 17. The class will be adapted to a weekend or retreat format and taught at a clergy retreat at the ECCO Conference Center near Yosemite National Park from November 10-12 – a Monday through Wednesday event. Praying Home will also be offered at Victory Tabernacle in Sacramento on the weekend of November 7-8 from 7-9:30 PM on Friday and all day on Saturday. All are welcome to the Bethel class or the Victory Tabernacle weekend event regardless of church connection; the clergy offerings are by invitation only at this time. We look forward to teaching the course in a number of venues; love offerings will be taken. Call Bethel Church at 530-246-6000 or Victory Tabernacle at 916-320-0249 for information. Call us for more info or to book.

Building A House of Prayer will be offered at Arcata First Baptist Church on October 17 and 18. Prophetic Acts With Impact will be taught at River Rock Fellowship in Truckee on October 24 and 25. Building offers practical training in becoming a people of prayer – as opposed to people who pray – and includes hands-on experience. Prophetic Acts is our weekend training for mobilizing a community to pray – constantly, in concert and with concentration of focus – for Holy Spirit Transformation. We cover targeted prayer, joining together to proclaim the whole Word over communities and praying on-site with insight. Call 707-822-0367 (Arcata) or 530-320-9293 (Truckee) for information.

Anyone desiring to participate or to gain a fuller picture of any current or upcoming events should go to the PrayNorthstate web site at www.praynorthstate.org or call us at 530-941-3470.
