JANUARY 2008 ISSUE – VOL. 8 #1
The Rev. Jim and Diana Wilson, Coordinators
Dear People of the Northstate Vision:
We begin our eighth year of ministry in PrayNorthState on the heels
of a banner 2007. The year past saw PrayNorthState Radio more than
quadruple our coverage area – not bad for a program manned
by volunteers that simply asks a couple of Christians each week
what they do in the Lord and how that connects to their relationship
with Him – while our TV ministry continues to span the NorthState.
We ministered in Fiji, New Zealand and Scotland – teaching,
praying, and coming alongside ministries there as we do here. The
Bible Reading Marathon and Paah-ho-ammi were rousing (and documented)
stories of the Lord’s glory and we saw hundreds healed and
confessing Jesus wherever we served – locally and internationally.
Jim’s book – Living As Ambassadors of Relationships
– is out as you read this and his second is in the works –
The Holy Spirit and the End Times – A Season of Unusual Miracles
was completed in December and should be out in late 2008. We continued
our usual pattern of assisting others in ministries from a single
parent family festival to praying and walking schools and businesses.
It was not all glory-to-God stuff. The regional economy suffers
even as we pray, there is drought on the land physically and spiritually
as we see marriages flounder and scandal break out in the Body.
Many churches that have looked for revival and transformation are
circling their wagons and the political polarization of our land
escalates. What can we do in 2008? We need to pray more, press in
more, and practice His presence more than we ever have done. Jesus’
promise that when we come together His call to life will be heard
in our midst (Ps. 133) is as relevant today as ever. Paul’s
call to be not weary in well-doing (Gal. 6:9) because all things
are valued only in light of Christ (Phil. 3:8) is right on! God
is coming in 2008. Pray for it!
CURRENTPrayNorthstateEVENTS
• PrayNorthState Media – radio and TV – is calling
January 2008 Culture of Life Month. The theme will also be observed
in GodTalk (Red Bluff Daily News), which we coordinate. We are prompted
by the anniversary of Roe v Wade that comes on January 22, but honestly
our purpose is to praise God for the Culture of Life – which
far transcends any legal or political issue – even one as
fundamental as the right to life for the helpless ones of all ages
– and which God is introducing in the Person of His Son and
the manifestation of His Kingdom to a world soaked in the culture
of death. We who believe and live in that light are the personification
of that culture. Let us pray and repent.

WHAT’S UP IN THE NORTHSTATE
• Multiple ministries in the NorthState helped to ring in
the Year of New Beginnings with special activities for young people.
Samples include A Call to Worship in Yreka at the local YMCA. John
Crovelle (best known for calling the men of the city to prayer)
organized the event for the fourth year and keyed it to those who
are not accustomed to – or comfortable in – a church.
Special invitation was given to more experienced Christians of all
ages to be there and stand with the young (in the faith) ones. In
Redding, Generation 14 – a Christian hip hop group –
organized a New Year’s Eve Party at Da Barn on Parkview Drive.
Several bands offered various kinds of music – all of it to
the Lord and for His glory – and the evening included prophecy,
testimony, and the Supper of the Lord. There is no better way for
the Church to party!
• The Apna Lounge is an internet gathering place located
in the United Kingdom and devoted to offering freedom of association
to young people whose traditions bind them into parentally arranged
cross gender relationships. Conceived by a non-Christian Asian man,
the lounge has become an effective crusader for Christ by the simple
tactic of telling the nation that Asians and Middle Easterners are
not at all offended by emphasizing Jesus in Christmas. Their campaign
– based on blessing and truth-telling without aggression –
has been so successful that Members of Parliament have resumed sending
Christian Christmas cards after a long hiatus. We often ask our
prayer warriors to pray for the UK – please pray for and imitate
the Apna Lounge – and pray for the Son of God to introduce
Himself to the founder.
• Capitol Resource Family Impact – Christian staffed
– has begun a referendum process seeking the reversal of new
state laws (effective January 2008) that mandate the promotion of
same-sex unions in public schools. For information or to become
involved, contact Capitol Resource Family Impact at 660 J Street,
Suite 250, in Sacramento. (Donations are not tax deductible.) Karen
England leads this drive and may be contacted at kengland@capitolresource.org
and more information may be obtained by calling Meredith Turney
at 916-498-1940.
• LifeLight, a Redding based ministry of compassionate care
for women in crisis pregnancies, opens their new location on December
1 and hosts an Open House on Sunday, January 20, from 2-4 PM. Their
new address is 2919 Bechelli Lane – next to A-1 Smog –
and the phone is 530-222-5200. They can also be reached at lifelight@snowcrest.net.
The opening follows a year-long search for a new and larger facility
after their Cypress Avenue landlord announced plans to sell the
building; it also fulfills a long-time passion to be located in
the Enterprise area of Redding. God is great and God is good!
• The Annual Pastors’ Prayer Summit – sponsored
by the pastors of the Chico hub – will be held from Monday,
January 14, through Wednesday, January 16, at the YWAM base at Richardson
Springs – just outside Chico. There us a $75.00 registration
fee to cover food and lodging and some scholarships are available
at need. The summit begins at 1 PM on Monday and ends just before
lunch on Wednesday. It is a time to spend with the Lord and with
brother and sister pastors – nothing but prayer and worship
and fellowship is on the agenda! Call 530-343-6006 x2110 for information
or to register. Jim will facilitate this year alongside Pastors
Ken Malone and Abe Huerta.
• Sierra Ministries International conducts a Healing Ministry
Training at the Celtic Cross Presbyterian Church in Citrus Heights.
The event is led by the Rev. Dan Prout and will run from Friday,
January 25, through Saturday, January 26. Call 530-478-1478, e-mail
sierraministries@nccn.net, or call the church at 916-967-1414 for
info or to register. The event teaches the Healing Rooms model of
ministry and has been well received around the region. There is
a $40.00 registration fee per person; reduced by half for youth
aged 14-24.
• Redding’s Bethel Church a writers’ workshop,
Writing Unto the Glory, from Monday, January 28, through Wednesday,
January 30. Featured speakers include Best Selling Authors Bill
Johnson and Kris Vallotton; and Journalist/Editors Julia Loren and
Terry Lea. Workshops will be presented by Screen Writer Bob Jamison,
Children’s writers Deborah Reed and Kimberly Shaw, and Editor
Christy Russell – among others. The workshop offers practical
tips to writers who would give God glory by telling pieces of His
story. There is a $90.00 registration fee and information or registration
is available at ibethel.org or 530-246-6000.
• Perspectives is a college level course in activating the
Great Commission. The weekly course begins January 27- 29 and covers
the history of missions, the Bible on missions, and practical techniques
of church planting, mission, and support of missionaries. It makes
the case that our neighborhoods are the mission field as much as
any foreign land. The course is held in three simultaneous Northstate
locations. Call Russell Weisner (530-514-2109) for Chico; David
Williams (530-547-3514) for Redding; or Frank Agee (530-877-1017)
for Chico to get info on fees and locations or to register.
• Jesus Culture returns to the Redding Convention Center
on Friday and Saturday, February 1 and 2. Featured speakers are
Dutch Sheets and Banning Liebscher, with worship led by Chris Quilala,
Kim Walker, and Melissa Wise. There is a $35.00 registration fee
and registration is through Melissa (call 530-246-6000) or at encounter@jesusculture.org.
The event will equip and offer hands-on experience to young people
in effective street ministry and reaching their peers with the Kingdom
and Culture of King Jesus. The event began as a vision of Youth
Pastor Banning Liebscher and has spread to eight world-wide locations.
