DECEMBER 2008 ISSUE – VOL. 8 #10
The Rev. Jim and Diana Wilson, Coordinators

Dear People of the Northstate Vision:

Many people read the story of Elijah on Mt. Carmel as a titanic struggle between God and evil. When God fires Elijah’s bull they know that God wins and justice has been done. But the real point of the story is the faith practiced by Elijah – first in his simple prayer for intervention by fire on a wet carcass and later in his declaration that rain is coming and the drought broken. In the execution Elijah behaves as a man of his time and cuts a cancer out of Israel into the bargain. But in his choice to trust God – in his behavior at the site of sacrifice and for God’s provision when he addresses King Ahab – he behaves as a timeless man after God’s own heart.

Faith is not an unshakable conviction that thus and so is true. Faith is what we do about our convictions when the chips are down. Faith is the outgrowing of a relationship with the Living God. In 1 Kings 18 Elijah believes that God will cover his bet on the bull of sacrifice, but what he knows is that his life only makes sense in light of what he knows of God. (Ahab – who trusts only himself – is a man whose life makes no sense in terms of what he knows of God.) He hopes that God will send the rain he prophesies – because God has told him as much – but he knows that his essential role is to speak the Word of God to Ahab before he sees objective evidence that rain is coming – not even a cloud the size of a man’s fist.

We enter Advent – the season of anticipating Christ – as Elijah people. Whether we are thinking of politics, the economy, or the type of worship we offer to God, let us re-commit to being people whose lives make sense only in light of what we know – and do – toward God. Let us become more and more people of prayer and out-of-the-box service. Let our faith be a verb.
CURRENTPrayNorthstateEVENTS

• Prophetic Acts With Impact comes to Jesus Christ Fellowship in Middletown, Lake County, from Friday Night, December 5 through Saturday, December 7. The conference is held from 7-9:30 PM on Friday and from 8:30 to 5 PM on Saturday. Participants learn how to join with Christians across denominational lines through proclamation of the whole Word and projects of targeted prayer. Prayer Vanguard – praying on site with insight is both taught and practiced at this event. Also taught will be concepts of community transformation and the documentation of what God does. Contact Pastor Jeff at 707-987-9082.

• Celebrating the NorthState Family is PrayNorthState’s first ever live call-in auction. The auction will be broadcast live on KLXR Redding, AM 1230, and on KBLF Red Bluff, AM 1490, from 6-8 PM on Sunday, December 7. WHAT’S UP IN THE NORTHSTATE

• Prayer and worship are being offered regularly in multiple locations of Redding’s downtown district. Get Real Worship and PrayNorthState are partnering in this ministry based on prophetic statements about God’s plans for the Downtown. Get Real Worship brings worship in song to Library Park and to the downtown mall plaza each week. PrayNorthState is bringing prayer walking and sacramental worship to these locations and we are now joined by Get Real. This is all to fulfill the prophecies over the mall that it would become a center of service and ministry – to date approximately ninety per cent of the open concerns in the mall are service oriented – up from about sixty per cent when the prophecies were first voiced in 2004. In addition, City Church holds regular Sunday services in the Cascade Theatre and Faith Community Church maintains offices in the downtown mall.

• Treasure Hunters from the Bethel Church School of Supernatural Ministry are making regular trips to the downtown area for contacts with people needing prayer, and the prayer tents of Redding Transformation always include downtown locations whenever they dot the Redding landscape. In our own prayer walks of the downtown we are now able to include some of the mall merchants themselves in walking and praying through the territory over which God has made them stewards. The point of all this is two-fold: God is moving in the Downtown and all that is required of His people – in any downtown – is that we be willing to participate and vision outside of the box.

• Backlash against those who supported Proposition 8 continues to escalate around the state and nation. Churches and church groups are especially being targeted with churches being invaded by chanting disrupters and – in San Francisco’s Castro District a group of young Christians from the Justice House of Prayer were attacked by a mob less than two weeks ago. Two young women were knocked down and hot coffee was poured on their faces before police arrived to escort the young people to safety while the mob screamed epithets and followed them closely. The truth about what is at stake in this controversy should be abundantly clear from the tactics employed by the supporters of gay marriage. Equally clear is the truth that our tactic as Christians continues to be prayer for and blessing of all parties to these issues. Let us remember that we are talking about people for whom Jesus Christ died and rose – whatever side they take.

• The Azusa House of Prayer is calling students and young people in the Los Angeles basin to fast from pleasure activities – like dating and entertainment – over the weekend of December 5-7, instead devoting their discretionary time to prayer and praise to God who delivers “pleasures forevermore.” This is a Genesis Generation conceived and led activity. The NorthState has not yet seen such an event – can we take a leaf from the SoCal prayer book?

CELEBRATING THE NORTHSTATE FAMILY
• There was a problem with the bidding mechanism on the web site. We are happy to announce that it is fixed – and up and running for pre-bidding.

• We are blessed to hold the first ever live call-in auction to support PrayNorthState’s ministry. The auction is at Holiday Inn on Hilltop Drive, Redding on Sunday, December 7, from 6-8 PM. We call it Celebrating the NorthState Family because we have been overwhelmed by the generosity – and boldness – of approximately seventy (70) NorthState businesses, ministries, and individuals (in this time of economic anxiety) as they donate to this event. We see it as a launching pad for all of us – and a prophetic event.

• To participate: If you wish to bid prior to the live auction, or if you live in a community that is not served by KLXR or KBLF Radio, go to www.praynorthstate.org and click the link to Auction. Follow the prompts and either pre-view items or bid on-line through Noon on Saturday, December 6. (During the live auction all bidding is by phone or in person and a limited number of lines are available.) On December 7-8 all successful bidders will be notified and items can be retrieved at the Holiday Inn or they will be delivered to the successful bidders. Keep checking in for updates on existing items or new items. Call 530-941-3470 if you have a question. The site is up and running.

• Since the listing in November’s newsletter we have received a number of spectacular new items. One is an all-expenses paid (transportation to the site not included) week at Los Arcos Hotel resort in Puerto Vallarta. Another is a helicopter ride. Several art objects have been donated, including a numbered Scott Gustafson print, another hand-carved emu egg, and a one-of-a-kind replica of a specially commissioned mural depicting the Pentecost event. (The original was lost in a 2005 fire that destroyed the museum built specifically to house it.) We have a day on a patio boat from Antler’s Bay and Smitty’s Healing and Cooling will even clean your ducts! Keep checking the web site for updates and for new items.

• Some will want to make a donation without bidding. Danielle Christensen of Prima Luxury Spa of Redding will donate a signature facial to the first twenty people making a donation of $25.00 or more – or bidding full price on an item – while supplies last. Special thanks also to Kelly Ferrari for giving ten copies of her latest CD – Covenant With Israel – these will be given to special supporters.

• We are especially thankful for donors who have pledged facilities, equipment, airtime, and underwriting. We thank Holiday Inn of Redding, Radio KLXR AM 1230 and KBLF AM 1490, The Institute of Skin Care Science School of Cosmetology and Massage, Rolling Hills Casino, Bethel Church, Redding, Danielle Christensen and Prima Luxury Spa, Abba’s Child Learning Center, and the Medical Practice of Dr. Andre VanMol. Participation is easy; pre-bid or phone in bids the night of the auction to 530-941-3470.
UPCOMING PrayNorthState EVENTS

• The teaching series we introduced in the Fall has been wildly successful. Based on the anointing for this season – as summarized in Luke 1:17 – and the teaching from Living Ambassadors of Relationships – Jim’s first book – Praying Home the Prodigals has been offered and tested in several different venues and schedules. It imparts practical insights into what it means to go forth in the Spirit and power of Elijah – to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children – to prepare a people for righteousness. The series will be offered in weekend formats in Sacramento – Oasis Ministries – January 17-18 – Seattle – Word of His Grace – February 13-14 – San Diego County – March 20-21 – Long Beach – All Saints Anglican – March 27-28 – and Susanville – Crossroads Ministries – May 29-30. A weekday format will be used at the clergy retreat for the Anglican Diocese of San Joaquin March 23-25 at a TBA location. Call us for more info or to book.

• Building A House of Prayer – in which participants learn to become people of prayer as opposed to people who pray – will be offered in California locations in the Spring as well. Watch the newsletter for dates and locations as we finalize planning.

• Prophetic Acts With Impact remains a staple of PrayNorthState – it is the basis for Jim’s newest book, The Holy Spirit and the End Times: A Season of Unusual Miracles – and we are working on plans to schedule this weekend event during 2009. In addition, there has been a renewal of interest in our vision-casting weekend event, Building the Body – this one teaches practical seeking of vision from God for congregations and communities, followed by practical exercises in the implementing of vision received and the pastoring of that reception.

Anyone desiring to participate or to gain a fuller picture of any current or upcoming events should go to the PrayNorthstate web site at www.praynorthstate.org or call us at 530-941-3470.
