Dear People of the Northstate Vision:

The first Sunday in October is observed all over the world as a day of prayer for Israel. It falls in the midst of the great Jewish Feast of Tabernacles – a day to commemorate the time of the Jews in the Sinai Wilderness, their return from exile when the temple was rebuilt and Ezra helped the Jews to rediscover their covenant with Yahweh and their utter dependence on Him for a blessing as elementary as the rains for which they prayed during the feast. It is – for Christians – the day on which Jesus stood in the middle of the feast to proclaim that all who came to Him would receive living water.

Christians are not required to keep the Jewish feasts. We understand that all of the sacramental promises expressed in the feasts are fulfilled in the coming of Messiah – King Jesus. But we do have a profound need to honor the firstborn of God who remain so in His heart that Paul tells us in Romans 11, “Consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.” We do have a calling to recognize that God does His best work with us when He has us in the wilderness, supplying even water for our baptism from the rock that He strikes. We are in constant need of re-newal and re-minding of the covenant in which we live. And we have opportunity to be content in our elemental need of things like rain – which only He can supply. Praise God, He still stands in the middle of our worship to proclaim that when we come to Him we receive living water.

The Jews are not better or holier than those who do not share their blood or their history. They are simply chosen – as we are – but chosen before us and chosen still. When we pray for and bless them we honor Him who chooses us. Pray for Israel this month and praise God – Father, Son and Spirit.

CURRENTPrayNorthstateEVENTS

PrayNorthState Radio is invited – and God affirms in prayer – to begin broadcasting on KMYC AM 1410 in Yuba City beginning November 3. We will air at 9 AM Saturdays and effectively double the coverage area for our radio broadcasting. Our debut on KMYC is frankly contingent on securing a minimum of four sponsoring churches or businesses within that coverage area. Please pray that God will provide and call us at 530-941-3470 if you have a referral from Yuba City south to North Sacramento or from Yuba City north to Chico.

WHAT THE COORDINATORS ARE UP TO

· Jim will be ministering a lot in Siskiyou County in October. He preaches at Fort Jones Community Church on Sunday, October 7 at 8:15 and 10:15, and again on Monday Evening – October 8 – at 7:10 PM. He returns to Yreka to speak at the Life Fellowship Foursquare Church on Sunday, October 28. Jim and Diana will lead several prayer vanguards at various locations – including schools – in October as well. Diana continues to lead her end of the ministry at the same time she coordinates a re-model of part of the Wilson home.

· Jim’s first book – Living as Ambassadors of Relationships – is due out from Destiny Image Publishers some time between November 15 and January 1 – so far. And yes, we will be mentioning this again – and updating you too. The book covers reconciliation across many different strata of the people God loves.

· Jim and Diana have earned a couple of free flights from Southwest Airlines. They will take a long awaited vacation trip during the first half of November. If the newsletter comes late – please forgive us.

WHAT’S UP IN THE NORTHSTATE

Saturday, October 6, marks the annual Walk for Life of Carenet Pregnancy Center of the Tri Counties. Walkers will gather at the Athens Avenue office in Redding; the Main Street office in Red Bluff, and Lee Fong Park in Weaverville to begin their two-mile walk. (Walkers who cannot come on the day are welcome to make their walk at any time.) It will be a time to celebrate the fulfillment of prophecy in the establishment of that ministry in three counties – and to enjoy the testimony of all that God has done to create a culture of life in our region. Walkers are sponsored by any who are able and the funds raised will make th 2008. Call 530-246-7075 to become a walker, a sponsor, or just to come out and enjoy the day.

Sunday, October 7, comes in the middle of the annual Jewish Feast of Tabernacles – a time to commemorate the wilderness exodus of the Jews, the re-discovery of the Law at the dedication of the second Temple, and the dependency of His people on their God in prayers for early rain. Jesus took this opportunity to call on the people to seek living water instead of earthly rain at the feast – and all of the Body of Christ is called to pray for Israel and God’s first-born on this day.

The Women’s Freedom Conference will be held in Redding on Saturday, October 20, at Redding Christian Fellowship, at 2157 Victor Avenue in Redding. The event is sponsored by a number of NorCal ministries including PrayNorthState and Carenet Pregnancy Centers of the Tri Counties. Keynote speaker Barbara Wilson is the author of The Invisible Bond and a survivor of sexual and intimacy bond issues who found freedom in Jesus Christ. The conference will be held from 9:30 to 3:30 and includes lunch and a copy of Barbara’s book. Registration of $38.00 goes up to $45.00 after October 12. Call 530-243-3373 to register or for information.

The Open Heaven Conference comes to Redding’s Bethel Church Wednesday through Friday, October 24-26. The church is located at 933 College Avenue in Redding and this year’s event features Dr. Mark Chironna, Overseer of the Master’s Touch International Church, Orlando, Florida; Che Ahn, founder and president of Harvest International Ministry, a worldwide network of more than five thousand congregations; and Bethel Senior Pastor Bill Johnson, author of When Heaven Invades Earth and numerous other best sellers. Johnson is also the founder of the Global Legacy Ministry. Registration is $69.00 for individuals, $115.00 for married couples, and $21.00 for youth under 21 year of age. Call 530-246-6000 or go on line to ibethel.org to register or for further information.

The ninth annual Respect Conference of the Redding Women’s Refuge is set for Thursday, October 25, with keynote speaker Dr. Jill Murray. Her titles include, But I Love Him; But He Never Hit Me; and Dangerous Relationships. Call 530-244-5683 for information or to register. The Women’s Refuge is not a faith-based ministry, but it is largely staffed by Christians doing an indispensable mercy ministry and PrayNorthState praises God for their work.

Redding Transformation will again set up their very successful prayer tent ministry on October 30, 31, and November 1. The tents appear in various locations with the permission of property owners and will be in operation from 10 AM to 4 PM on the days of ministry. They are staffed by trained volunteers and prayer is offered for any needs presented. (This is not a time for counseling; prayer to Living God is all that is offered.) Call 530-357-3151 for information on locations or to volunteer to serve.

Also coming to Redding’s Bethel Church is the semi-annual Leadership Advance Conference from Monday, November 5 through Wednesday, November 7. People literally travel across oceans to get to this one, and all registrations must be in by October 12. The cost is $130.00 per person and $220.00 per married couple. Call 530-246-6000 or go to ibethel.org for information or to register.

Lake County Gathered Churches will host a conference November 8-10 in Clearlake. Dick Joyce will keynote the event titled A New Anointing for a New Day. The conference is open to all Christians – whether from Lake County or not – and anyone interested should call 707-994-4890 for information.

In Sacramento – all Christians are invited to join together to pray for the state and nation on the first Saturday of every month at Capitol Christian Center – Room S-1 – at 9470 Micron Avenue in Sacramento; at Adventure Christian Church – Fireside Room – at 6401 Stanford Ranch Road in Roseville – both at 7 AM; at First Baptist Church of El Grove – Room E101 – at 8939 East Stockton Blvd in Elk Grove – at 7:30 AM; and at Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church – Wells Chapel – at 11427 Fair Oaks Blvd in Fair Oaks – at 4 PM.

Also in Sacramento – on the third Saturday of each month all Christians are invited to gather at the Rose Garden/Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial at the State Capitol to pray for the state. Prayer begins at 8:30 AM.

UPCOMING PrayNorthstate EVENTS

PrayNorthState brings Building A House of Prayer: Some Assembly Required to Oceanview Baptist Church in Crescent City the weekend of February 8-10. Jim will make a January trip to Crescent City to seed vision for that event as well. The weekend conference seeks to help participants make unceasing prayer a lifestyle as natural as breathing. There is focus on prayer as ongoing conversation with God, but at least equal emphasis is given to pragmatic prayer for community transformation, healing, and seeking vision for personal and corporate life. Hands on experience is included at every step – along with tips about documenting and proclaiming results.

Anyone desiring to participate or to gain a fuller picture of any current or upcoming events should go to the PrayNorthstate web site at www.praynorthstate.org or call us at 530-941-3470.

S. Truett Cathy – Marketplace Minister

S. Truett Cathy is the founder and president of a fast food franchising operation called Chick-fil-A. The chain has spread to California in recent years, although it began in Rome, Georgia, home to Mr. Cathy. His auto-biography begins with a reference to Proverbs 22:1, “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.” His story is what we mean when we are comparing businesses that begin with a product and proceed to a vision when they feel they are able to businesses that begin with a vision and proceed to a product when God blesses the procession. Cathy has a habit of signing copies of his book with the dedication, “To the thousands of young people who serve God by serving our customers.”

Habits like these frame a culture that blesses those who enter it.

Cathy is outspoken about loving God and his fellow man being the pillars of his business acumen. He has built a fast-food empire on business practices that proceed from these principals. He also believes that he lives in order to leave the world better than he found it, in helping people only to help themselves, that education must involve head and heart and hands, that investment in youth is the best investment, and that people are more important than ideas. He launched a scholarship and live-in program at Berry College in Georgia in 1984.

He also demands a clean kitchen, efficient operation, and employees on time and ready to work – like any business owner would expect. The Kingdom difference is that he believes these good production practices emerge from his vision while others seek vision only after the production end is nailed down.

Please pray for our leaders and media sponsors:
