| DECEMBER 2007 ISSUE – VOL. 7 #11
The Rev. Jim and Diana Wilson, Coordinators
Dear People of the Northstate Vision:
Unlike Matthew and Luke, the first verses of Mark contain no birth
narrative for the Lord Jesus. They are all about preparing our hearts
and the environment of our lives for His coming. Mark claims that
the opportunity to repent – to turn about and turn our lives
over to God through the Son – is actually the beginning of
the Good News He brings. The Body has understood this implicitly
down the centuries – although it is marvelous in our eyes
– because we find ourselves in the traditional season of Advent
as December opens. Advent is the season of preparation – to
celebrate the Birth, yes – but just as much or more to prepare
for the Return. The Lord has opened this season with remarkable
opportunities to do just that.
At this time He answered the prayers of thousands to restrain the
winds and send in the rain so as to enable firefighters to defeat
the worst wildfires in the history of our state. He brought about
a great scientific breakthrough in stem cell research – the
reprogramming of adult cells to mimic the flexibility forecast for
embryonic stem cells without harming human embryos confirms yet
again that when He says No in His Word it is to make possible a
larger Yes to the people He loves. (The successful projects occurred
independently in Japan and Wisconsin.) The 40 Days for Life vigil
conducted in Sacramento brought new decisions to bring babies to
life even at sacrificial moments, and LifeLight – a Redding
Pro-Life ministry – moves into much larger and more strategic
headquarters after two years of concerted prayer.
All of this good news is His way of calling us to more concerted
and sustained prayer and a greater willingness to wait (dynamically)
on Him for the working of His will. What better way to welcome His
birth and return?
CURRENTPrayNorthstateEVENTS
PrayNorthState Radio is still awaiting the requisite number of
sponsors to enable us to broadcast on KMYC Yuba City on Saturday
Mornings. We have one solid commitment, two businesses that are
considering us, and we are in need of at least one more good referral.
We ask all of you to pray for the speedy resolution of this need
– and please call us at 530-941-3470 if someone you know might
like to fill it. This is a chance to saturate NorCal with good news!

WHAT’S UP IN THE NORTHSTATE
The 40 Days of Life Vigil conducted daily in Sacramento since September
26 concluded on November 4 and was a tremendous success. Vigil-ers
representing multiple denominations prayed around the clock and
the feedback was positive – except for some Planned Parenthood
workers who tried to claim they were harassed by the prayer people.
(Volunteers were careful to remember that Jesus gave His life for
abortion workers too.) Figures are not in for the numbers of abortions
prevented, but PrayNorthState TV anticipates the pleasure of featuring
a couple who decided for life during the visit on a January broadcast.
Prayer at the clinic in Sacramento continues despite conclusion
of the project. For information or to participate call 916-955-1577.
January 22, 2008 the thirty-fifth anniversary of the US Supreme
Court decision to legalize abortion in the United States. PrayNorthState
– and many other ministries – recognize that legalized
abortion is both symptom and agent of a culture of death that is
caused by sin and which includes drug addiction, domestic violence
and divorce, child abuse and God-forbidden domestic unions. We believe
that the celebration of people set free from bondage of all kinds
is a good way to displace this culture with a culture of life. PrayNorthState
Radio names January 2008 as Culture of Life Month and guests will
be chosen to promote that theme. Let us know what you are doing
to praise God for life.
Jim’s book – Living As Ambassadors of Relationships
– will be published on January 1 by Destiny Image Publishers.
The book addresses reconciliation issues – and how God would
deal with them – in many dimensions. It makes the case that
being ambassadors of God’s reconciliation is the intersection
of the Great Commission and Jesus’ call to love one another.
It will be available in bookstores, at our conferences, and on the
PrayNorthState web site.
Capitol Resource Family Impact – Christian staffed –
has begun a referendum process seeking the reversal of new state
laws (effective January 2008) that mandate the promotion of same-sex
unions in public schools. For information or to become involved,
contact Capitol Resource Family Impact at 660 J Street, Suite 250,
in Sacramento. (Donations are not tax deductible.) Karen England
leads this drive and may be contacted at kengland@capitolresource.org
and more information may be obtained by calling Meredith Turney
at 916-498-1940.
Laugh Magazine is a new periodical in the NorthState devoted to
sharing the Gospel and publishing specific stories and interviews
addressing the pragmatic ways in which God is announcing His presence
in the region. The second issue has just been released and stories
include a man healed of the effects of a crushed ankle, and a woman
healed of emphysema – all at the same Shasta Lake City evangelistic
crusade led by local students. Locals traveling to Israel, soldiers
returning from Iraq, and a business that blend science and prayer
for their clients are also featured. E-mail laugh-mag@hotmail.com
to find distribution locations.
Bibles, Books, and More is the new Christian bookstore in Redding
located at 2244 Hilltop Drive – phone 530-222-2944. This effort
to fill the gap left when Redding Christian Supply closed is needing
and deserving of our support.
Art Show Fundraiser is what they are calling the event to raise
support for missionaries on December 14 and 15 – Friday from
10-5 and Saturday from 2:30 to 7. Barbara Lund is a missionary to
Zambia and she hopes to raise support for her ministry as well as
for local boy Ryan Anderson (Denmark), John Mikunyo (Kenyan national
at Simpson University and planning to return to mission in Kenya)
and Churchill Odurokwe (Nigerian national on mission in NorCal).
The event will be held at YAKS Coffee Shop on Bechelli in Redding.
Generation 14 is a local (to Redding) Christian hip hop evangelistic
ministry offering a movable feast each new year. They minister in
Da Barn – sometimes called The Barn Art Gallery and located
at 745 Parkview Drive in Redding – beginning at 8 PM on Monday,
December 31; concert begins at 9. In addition to Gen 14 the event
features FBI-C – Firm Believers in Christ – and Davis,
Kailene and 4-God. The event is free but a $3 donation is welcomed.
LifeLight, a Redding based ministry of compassionate care for women
in crisis pregnancies, opens their new location on December 1. Their
new address is 2919 Bechelli Lane – next to A-1 Smog –
and the phone is 530-222-5200. They can also be reached at lifelight@snowcrest.net.
The opening follows a year-long search for a new and larger facility
after their Cypress Avenue landlord announced plans to sell the
building; it also fulfills a long-time passion to be located in
the Enterprise area of Redding. God is great ad God is good!
Family Christian Center, of Orangevale, sponsors the Overflow Conference
– Releasing the Floodgates of Heaven. Wesley Campbell is based
in Kelowna, British Columbia, and (with wife Stacey) leads ministries
of prayer and social action – he is a frequent visitor to
the region. Sharon Stone re-located to England in 1996 to found
Christian International Europe – a ministry of evangelism
and equipping. Martin Scott is a native of the United Kingdom with
a special relationship to the whole region; this popular author
and songwriter has poured himself into the North Coast, Redding,
and the greater Sacramento area for some years. The church is located
at 6521 Hazel Avenue in Orangevale. Call 916-988-6606 or register
on-line at riverlife.net. There is a registration fee.
Pacific Justice Institute is a Christian legal foundation for the
defense of religious freedom and parental rights as well as other
civil liberties. They offer a free half-day seminar for pastors
and leaders on navigating moral issues in congregational and ministerial
settings, dealing with municipal authorities, opportunities for
youth ministry in public schools, and parameters for churches in
election cycles. They come to Redding on Thursday, January 17 in
Redding. A meal will be provided. Call 916-857-6900 or go to pacificjustice.org.

MINISTRY BIO: DOUG AND DIANNE PHILLIPS

Love Orphanage in Baja California. They understand well that the
heart of any ministry is in the years of making relationships with
local people in need and with local leaders. They live that heart.
The home is up and running as of this writing and they have received
their first children. They have also depended on the Lord’s
miracles for air conditioning, computers, and the labor of dedicated
