Dear People of the Northstate Vision:

Each of the synoptic gospels devotes an entire chapter to the end times – to what we can expect to see and endure as the return of our Lord comes closer and closer. Three features stand out in all of the accounts. First, no one knows the day and the hour; we are called to active watching and waiting at all times. Second, the worse conditions become the sooner we can expect His glorious return; we are to rejoice at the good gifts we receive and praise Him for the trials we endure. And finally, all that happens in these times is for the purpose of our witness; we are to proclaim His mighty acts performed in our midst and make disciples at every opportunity.

March swings us into the traditional season of Lent – the time of preparation for the celebration of our Lord’s death and resurrection – the first time around. Most people associate the season with giving up some indulgence or taking on some ministry – and that’s fine. But what better way to get ready to celebrate the first resurrection than by preparing for the second coming? This is especially so when we consider that we are in the final conflict prior to that coming – it rages all over the world and our hearts are both the prize and the primary battleground. The war on terror is the tip of the iceberg – it is how we engage spiritual warfare that counts.

A good starting place is the drought that God will resolve if His people pray consistently, concertedly and with focus on viewing those in other regions of the state as more important than we are. We need to pray the rain and snow on our neighbors and they need to pray it on us. This is a mere icon of the prayer that should become a lifestyle for us in this time. It’s God’s way of holding us faithful in a little so that He can bless us with much.
